Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff is on his way to Portsmouth.

The Evening Chronicle says Longstaff looks set for a switch to Portsmouth on a six-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old was wanted by a clutch of Sky Bet Championship club's this summer and held talks with newly-promoted Rotherham United.

However, a late swoop from Pompey convinced the midfield battler that the South Coast could be the best option for him next season.

Portsmouth are winning the race to sign Longstaff as it stands, according to sources on the south coast.
