Newcastle United wing-back Jetro Willems has revealed Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum thanked him for holding Manchester City to a draw on Saturday.

And Willems told De Telegraaf: "Gini called me to say thanks. We call each other after every match.

“We are not that far apart now. I have been to the Champions League match of Liverpool against FC Salzburg and he has also been to see me once. It is not that we are only talking about football together.

"As friends, we are also talking about other things, because we are already so much involved with football."
