Newcastle whiz Perez only wanted Premier League move - Cervera

Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez always wanted to the move to the Premier League.

That's the claim of his former Tenerife manager Alvaro Cervera.

Perez scored a goal nearly every other game for Tenerife and was linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona as well as Portugal's Porto.

"When it became known there was interest from the Premier League, that is what he desired," said Cervera to the Daily Express. "There were plenty of other clubs who were enthusiastic about his potential, but in the end the decision was with the player.

"Perez has a very strong mind, and that is one of the reasons why he will be a big success, because he thinks carefully about everything he does and works at his game so hard."
