Newcastle, West Ham, Crystal Palace to suffer during African Cup

Newcastle United, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are likely to be the three Premier League clubs who suffer the most during the 2015 African Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournament takes place in Equatorial Guinea between January 17 and February 8 meaning some of England's top flight clubs could be without some of their key players for a month or more.

The Magpies are set to lose leading scorer Papiss Cisse, who will be away with Senegal, as well as Algeria's Mehdi Abeid and Ivory Coast midfielder Cheick Tiote.

While the hard-tackling Tiote will be a monumental loss in the centre of midfield, it will be the goalscoring exploits of Cisse which the Toon will miss the most as he netted seven of their 18 Premier League goals.

Fourth-placed West Ham will also be affected negatively by the African Cup with seven-goal striker Diafra Sakho and key defender Cheikhou Kouyate (both Senegal) and star loan signing Alex Song (Cameroon) tipped to go far in the tournament.

In south London, Palace will lose in-form winger Yannick Bolasie to DR Congo duties while fringe players Adlene Guedioura (Algeria) and Jimmy Kebe (Mali) will also be absent.

The biggest loss, however, will be that of monumental midfielder Yaya Toure who will be away from title contenders Manchester City to captain the Ivory Coast having scored four goals in his past six outings.
