Manchester United have been put off by Newcastle's valuation of Sean Longstaff.
The Red Devils were hoping to add Longstaff to their squad as soon as possible.
They have now backed off after Toon demanded £50m for their academy graduate when the two clubs met this week, according to The Sun.
United are prepared to pay £20m for the 21-year-old.
Longstaff has made 11 appearances for the Magpies after making his debut last season.
