Newcastle United Under-23 chiefs have been told the season will resume.
The Evening Chronicle says Premier League chiefs are still hopeful of getting this season's Under-23 competitions completed when football returns later this year.
Sources close to the top-flight have indicated that Premier League 2 and the Premier League's League Cup competition plus the play-offs have not been scrapped at this stage.
With the expectation that the Premier League returns to action in June or July, potentially behind closed doors, the division's decision makers feel second string football will run alongside senior football.
This will be of significant interest to Newcastle's Under-23 squad who saw their season interrupted in the middle of a five game winning run.
