Newcastle United are trying to hijack Sunderland's move for Dion Sanderson.

The Wolves defender spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have already failed with an offer of £1m for Sanderson.

And the Daily Mail says Newcastle want to beat their local rivals to the 21-year-old centre-back.

Toon have upped the offer to £1.5m, but Wolves are currently seeking £2m.
