Newcastle United are pondering a move for Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence.

The club are focusing on pursuing younger players who can have a higher sell on value in a few years.

That is owner Mike Ashley's way of supporting the manager, while ensuring the club is in a good financial position, according to the Northern Echo.

The 20-year-old impressed with the Boro first team last season, and has continued his good form under Neil Warnock this term.

A January move is very likely, but Boro would want a large fee to convince them to release an important player midway through the season.
