Newcastle United are ready to hand Steven Taylor a bumper pay-rise for him to remain on Tyneside.
The People says United are ready to offer Steven Taylor £45,000 a week to keep the former England Under-21 skipper at St James' Park for the next four years.
But the Newcastle hierarchy are insisting on a clause that will see the Geordie boy's wages drop to £25,000 a week should they be relegated.
Indeed any player joining Newcastle, and those negotiating new contracts, will have to pay the price should the club go down this term.
