Steve McClaren says he is baffled by Danny Blind's decision to exclude Daryl Janmaat from the Netherlands national team.

Janmaat was not selected in the Dutch squad for their important Euro2016 qualifying clashes against Iceland and Turkey next month by new manager Blind and his decision has left quite a few in Newcastle a bit surprised.

Magpies boss McClaren was taken aback by the decision while Janmaat himself seemed to disagree with his exclusion from the team.

McClaren said: "It surprises me, but I'm not the national manager of Holland. I know he's changed but I'm very surprised.

Janmaat also had his say by stating: "There is a new coach with a new vision and has his own preferences. Apparently I am not one of them."
