Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi is confident of proving himself Premiership class.

Ameobi admits he's never quite hit the heights in the top-flight.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "I haven't played consistently in the Premier League - that's the one thing I'm looking for.

"I know if I play games on a consistent basis, I'll score goals. I think I've proved that when I've been given the chance.

"I've got nothing to prove to anyone - I just want to go out there, play football and score goals at the end of the day.

"Hopefully, I can do that next season."
