Newcastle matchwinner Ayoze Perez says he could have gone to either Barcelona and Real Madrid before moving to the Premier League in the summer. Perez, who joined the Magpies from Tenerife, scored the winner against Tottenham in his first English top-flight start.
"Yes, there was interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid," the 21-year-old striker told the Guardian. "The truth is that the Newcastle bid was quite surprising because firstly there were other teams interested.
"But they pushed very hard to get me. I feel they really valued me. We had to consider the different options and I finally decided to come to Newcastle."
