Earlier, Sky Sports made a claim that the Cottagers had agreed a £5m deal for the Uruguayan striker.

The 24-year-old was believed to be in London to discuss personal terms on Sunday, but the Magpies have reportedly registered late interest in the player.

However, Fulham remain hopeful of concluding a deal for the player, who scored 37 goals in over 100 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
