Newcastle seek more goals from Gutierrez

Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton is counting on more goals from Jonas Gutierrez next season.

Gutierrez - who has already been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer - made 47 appearances for club and country last season and ended the term in the Championship with four goals and seven assists.

Hughton was delighted with his contributions but would like to see more in the next campaign.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "What we saw from him last season was, perhaps, the areas we felt he needed to improve - of course assists, and, ultimately, goals.

"He added that to his game, but we still feel, for somebody of his ability, he should score more goals.

"It's a tougher ask in the Premier League, but what he has done now is broken that duck, and I think he'll be looking forward to scoring more goals."
