Newcastle sale plans puts Shearer future in serious doubt

Alan Shearer's future at Newcastle United is in serious doubt after club owner Mike Ashley declared he was eager to find a new buyer.

The Sun says Ashley's sudden change of heart means:

- A new owner will not be in place until pre-season training starts in a month.

- Alan Shearer's future is now in serious doubt as the supremo may not want him.

- Plans to bolster the squad are on hold because there is no one to sign the cheques.

- The highly-paid squad are in limbo as a new boss will decide who to get rid of.

Ashley is willing to sacrifice a breathtaking £140m in his search of a quick sale.

A source close to Ashley said: "Mike wants a quick sale and is confident the financial markets have settled since he tried to sell last year.

"He wants out but it needs to be sorted because time is ticking. There are still lots of players to be moved.

"Alan needs to re-evaluate what he was asking for but the chances of him getting the job aren't as great as before.

"Mike's decision to sell has changed everything. Everything is in limbo."
