Newcastle United will make no further comment regarding the future of controversial midfielder Joey Barton.
The 28-year old was told earlier this week that he can leave the club on a free transfer and subsequently criticised the board on his Twitter account.
Barton has since trained by himself before linking up with the Magpies reserves today as clubs circle for his services but his future will no longer be a talking point as both parties try to work through the problems that has seen the player put up for a transfer despite having a year to run on his contract.
"We understand the level of interest in the club's decision to offer Joey Barton a free transfer," read a club statement.
"However, it would not be dignified, nor would it serve any useful purpose at this present time, for either the club or Joey to air their private issues on this matter in public.
"The club and the player have important business to focus on over the coming days and both parties have come to an agreement that we will not comment further at this time."
