Newcastle ready to hand Pope new contract

Newcastle United are ready to hand England goalkeeper Nick Pope a new contract.

The Sun says Newcastle will be extending his current deal and will raise his current wage to bring his contract in line with many other top keepers around the league.

The newspaper reports that Pope's base salary is currently around £60,000-per-week, and with appearance money, clean sheet bonuses, and win bonuses his weekly wage totals out at around £100,000.

The Geordies are now looking to up his basic salary to £100,000-per-week before any add-ons have been included.

The shot-stopper signed for Newcastle from Burnley last summer for a fee of £12m, signing a four-year deal on his arrival.
