Newcastle ready to prove themselves says Anita

Newcastle United midfielder Vurnon Anita says the club is ready to show the football world what they are capable of.

The Magpies slumped to a 16th-place finish last season following the heights of fifth in 2011/12 and Anita is confident they can recover that previous form in 2013/14.

"We've got a good team but we didn't show it last season and now we start afresh," he told BBC Newcastle.

"We will show people we are better than we were last year."

And former Ajax man Anita was looking to build on the 17 Premier League starts (25 appearances total) he made last season.

"As a football player you always want to play," he added.

"But I'm a relaxed person, I know when my chance comes I will take it. I will do my best and see what happens.

"I hope to play more of course, and I will do my best for the team."
