Newcastle United No2 John Carver feels new boy Yohan Cabaye has the capabilities to fill the void left by Kevin Nolan when it comes to goalscoring.
Nolan grabbed 12 goals from midfield last term.
Carver told the Evening Chronicle: "We're excited about Yohan. Obviously, he's a central midfield player, and we think he and Cheick Tiote will complement each other.
"He'll want to get forward - I think he scored something like 15 goals the season before last.
"He had a different role last season but, because of the way Cheick plays, he'll have a licence to get forward.
"Last season when we played teams in the bottom half of the table at St James' Park, they got men behind the ball and we didn't always break them down.
"It's difficult to break down teams like that, but Yohan can open doors for us. He's got that vision."
