Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is in talks with Nottingham Forest.
The Evening Chronicle says Colback spent last season on loan at Forest and his departure would clear a large chunk off the club's wage budget with the midfielder currently draining £40,000 per week out of United's coffers.
The City Ground side could sign Colback by the end of June.
Forest boss Aitor Karanka said: “I hope we can bring in a few more players, before we report back on the 25th.
“When we finished the season I said I would like to start pre-season with as many of the new players as possible."
