Newcastle manager Howe threatened by Roma in chase for Reims defender Faes

Newcastle United are facing competition for highly-rated Belgian center-half Wout Faes.

The 24-year-old has impressed this season with Stade Reims in Ligue 1.

The club are ready to sell him for around £8.5 million, per Het Laatste Nieuws.

According to the source, Roma boss Jose Mourinho is also a keen admirer of Faes.

Newcastle believe the player would prefer to play in the Premier League, but the appeal of Roma and Mourinho will be enticing.

The Magpies are very eager to add one or two top quality centre-backs to their squad this summer, and are looking at Souleymane Isaak Toure from Le Havre as well.
