Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez says there are no plans to meet with owner Mike Ashley this week.

The Magpies are in desperate need for reinforcements in January, but with Ashley looking to sell the club, it is unclear whether funds will be made available.

And Benitez remains in the dark over those plans.

Asked if he had a meeting with Ashley, Benitez replied: "No."

Speaking about the state of his squad, the Spaniard added: "I know where we are.

"From day one when we finished the transfer window, we knew it could be like that.

"But when you are doing well on the pitch, you expect something more."
