Newcastle United have enquired about Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins.

The Portugal international has found it hard to adjust in Spain after joining Sporting Lisbon as a free agent in the summer.

Toon are desperate for reinforcements this month but have failed to make a single signing.

That could change with a potential loan deal for Martins, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions last term.
