Newcastle United are lining up a move for Roma striker Patrik Schick.
Given the relatively affordable price of the attacker, who is available for £24 million, Newcastle could sign him regardless of their summer takeover.
The Magpies are hoping the bid from a Saudi-backed consortium to buy the club from Mike Ashley goes through.
But the Daily Mail suggests a deal for Schick is not dependent on that process.
Schick has been at RB Leipzig this season, but they do not want to sign him permanently for the agreed £21 million.
The coronavirus pandemic has meant revenues are down for Bundesliga clubs, and Leipzig do not think Schick is of great value at that price.
