Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer isn't surprised Joe Kinnear has resigned.

Kinnear resigned as director of football last night.

He told Match of the Day 2: "I always say nothing should surprise you in football, certainly not with Newcastle anyway, but I was very surprised with his appointment in the first place.

"Particularly with the way it was announced, with the way Joe himself announced it on the radio.

"(He) got all those names wrong, after being out of the game for so long...it was a strange appointment in the first place, but I'm not surprised."
