Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has offered words of advice to Sunderland striker Darren Bent.

Bent bumped in to the Newcastle legend, who he refers to as "Sir Alan" at a restaurant opening, and Shearer offered the former Spurs and Charlton star words of encouragement.

Bent, who keeps his fans up to day via Twitter, wrote: "The restaurant opening was cool. Alan Shearer gave me some nice words which was even better.

"When someone has scored 350+ goals and gives you advice you make sure you listen - and I did."
