Newcastle keen to close deal for Man City defender Boyata

Newcastle United are also hoping to follow up interest in Manchester City's young defender Dedryck Boyata by concluding a loan deal.

The Daily Mail says the City defender was called up to the senior Belgium squad earlier this month capping a remarkable year in which he has broken into the first team and is highly rated by the club's manager Roberto Mancini who wants him to gain experience elsewhere.

Boyata made three Premier League appearances last season and featured in the Carling Cup semis.
