Newcastle join Everton in race for Wigan's McCarthy

Newcastle United are believed to be showing significant interest in Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy.

The Toon are preparing for life without Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain target Yohan Cabaye who could leave this summer and have reportedly entered the race to sign the talented 22-year old.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who signed the £10million-rated McCarthy from Hamilton Academical in 2009, is keen on reuniting with the Republic of Ireland international but it has come to light that Magpies boss Alan Pardew is circling as well.
