Newcastle in Chelsea contact for Giroud

Newcastle United are eyeing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

Newcastle are wanting to sign Giroud on loan this January, says the Telegraph.

Chelsea are not willing to let the Frenchman leave this month, unless they can find a replacement.

Toon boss Steve Bruce is looking to sign Giroud for the rest of the season to bolster his attacking options. Joelinton joined Newcastle in the summer for a club record fee of £40million but has failed to impress with just one Premier League goal from 21 appearances.

The 33-year-old is keen to leave the Blues due his lack of game time as he wants to make a bid for the France squad that will play at Euro 2020.

Reports claim that Newcastle had made contact with Chelsea before the transfer window opened to discuss whether a loan would be possible, but were told there is no chance of a move to Tyneside at this stage.
