Newcastle United have made a move for Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Northern Echo says Newcastle have joined the race for Eriksen after he turned down the opportunity to stay at Brentford.

There's an acknowledgement by the Magpies that they will have to pay more for the Dane than Tottenham or Manchester United, who are thought to lead the running for his signature.

Spurs' big offer to Eriksen over their rivals is the prospect of Champions League football.

The midfielder has stated he'd like to return to the elite of the Champions League next season.
