Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey admits he could be a "Liverpool hero" after grabbing a late equaliser against Manchester City.
With City leading 2-1, former Liverpool man Shelvey connected with the ball first-time from a corner that was pulled back to the top of the area and whipped it past Ederson with a beautiful right-footed curling effort.
The midfielder, who made his debut for the Reds in 2012 and played almost 70 games, spoke to BT Sport after the match to jokingly declared he might be a hero in Liverpool.
"We thought we deserved a point there," he said.
"I might be a hero at Liverpool now, but listen it's about us and we need to get as many points as quick as possible to guarantee the safety of this club."
"We showed we've got a bit of character and spirit about us."
With victory over Brighton, Liverpool are 11 points clear of City at the top of the table.
