Newcastle United are regarded as favourites for Manchester City striker Ched Evans.
The Daily Mail says the Wales striker will join the exodus of players from City this summer, following Darius Vassell out of Eastlands as Mark Hughes looks to bring in a string of big-name signings. United boss Kevin Blackwell has already had one offer rejected but is confident of signing the 20-year-old.
However, the move could be torpedoed by interest from relegated Premier League duo West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle. Newcastle would be favourites but prolonged takeover talks on Tyneside and the uncertainty over Alan Shearer's future as manager is inevitably hampering any deals involving the playing squad.
