Newcastle United are eyeing Galatasaray striker Ryan Babel.

Eurosport says Newcastle want to sign the 33-year-old but also face competition from Ajax.

The North-East club have made contact with Galatasaray over the possibility of a move.

When Rafa Benitez was in charge of Newcastle he also wanted to bring in Babel, who spent a short loan period with Fulham last term.

Babel scored five goals in 16 games for the Cottagers in an impressive spell but ultimately his efforts were not enough to keep them up.
