Newcastle, Everton step up Bas Dost pursuit

Everton and Newcastle are set to battle it out in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Bas Dost.

The Dutch international wants out of Portugal and has been brilliant in front of goal during the past few seasons as he has struck 70 goals in 90 games for his club.

New Toffees boss Marco Silva needs to add quality strikers to his setup ahead of next season given that Wayne Rooney and Oumar Niasse are expected to leave Goodison Park this summer.

The Magpies tried to land Dost two years ago. However, the player opted to join Sporting from Wolfsburg for £10.7 million.

Due to unrest within the Sporting team, Dost could be let go for a bargain fee.
