Newcastle United have begun talks to sign Andreas Samaris from Benfica.

The Magpies have long been linked with the Greek midfielder.

The Chronicle claims talks have been initiated by Toon, who are looking to sign the 29-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season.

Newcastle are also working on a deal for Monaco misfit Antonio Barreca, who has been told he can leave the Ligue 1 club.
