The prospects of Alan Shearer continuing as Newcastle United have suffered another blow.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle ditched plans to use Shearer at the forefront of their new season ticket campaign because of the uncertainty over his future.

Season ticket reminders started to land through fans' letterboxes over the weekend but with Newcastle up for sale to the quickest bidder, the club's hierarchy dropped the idea of using Shearer as the image on literature sent out ahead of the Championship season.

Instead fans were sent a routine letter signed by managing director Derek Llambias.
