Newcastle discussing assistant role with former midfielder Clark

Newcastle United have reportedly been in talks with Lee Clark regarding the assistant manager's role.

According to the Daily Mail, former Magpies midfielder Clark is seriously being considered for the number two job at St James' Park where he is expected to work alongside Steve McClaren.

With McClaren's appointment imminent, Newcastle hierarchy are looking for a suitable coaching staff to work with the ex-England and Derby County boss after John Carver and Steve Stone were released.

Clark, who enjoyed two spells as a player with the Toon, departed Blackpool at the end of last season and is available. His previous managerial roles were spent with Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City.
