Newcastle defender Williamson has Wolves loan extended

Mike Williamson has extended his loan stay with Championship club Wolves.

The 32-year-old centre-half joined the Wolverhampton outfit from Newcastle United on a one-month deal in mid-October which has now been pushed forward until January 16.

Williamson has made three appearances under Kenny Jackett who is thrilled to see the experienced defender remain at Molineux for the next two months.

"We are delighted that the deal has been extended and that Mike will be with us through a very busy December and Christmas period," he told the club's official website.

"Mike will give us some real competition and allow us to take our time with players coming back.

"He has brought a lot of experience and physical presence to the back four and to the club and has helped the players around him at a time when we have had a number of injuries to centre backs."
