Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat says he felt for manager John Carver as they fought against the drop.

Janmaat concedes the players let down Carver before Sunday's final day win.

"John deserved the win against West Ham because he has worked really hard with the team," Janmaat told the Evening Chronicle.

"(Carver) tried everything. I feel sorry for him - we let him down in games and it can't happen again."
