Newcastle United coach Ben Dawson says the emergence of Sean Longstaff is an endorsement of their career "pathway".
Dawson hopes that others will take inspiration from the former Blackpool and Kilmarnock loanee after he impressed on the big stage.
The United coach told the Evening Chronicle: "I think he's set a great pathway.
"He's had to be patient.
"But the manager saw something in him and he wanted to keep him around. He could have gone away and played games.
"Sometimes the best thing for your development is to be around the place and being around the other players and the other group.
"He's got to know the manager by being on the pitch every day.
"The opportunity came, he was ready and he took it."
