Newcastle caretaker boss Jones happy to take point from Crystal Palace

Newcastle United caretaker boss Graeme Jones was pleased with their 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

The Magpies had just 25% possession at Selhurst Park but held on for a point thanks to Callum Wilson's goal and a fortunate VAR call.

After the match Jones hailed his players and was happy with the performance overall.

Jones said: "We came here to win - that was the intention.

"We didn't so the next best thing is a point.

"Off the ball I was pleased with the organisation.

"We only gave Palace one chance in the first half, in the second half they had two.

"It's a base. It's a start but I would like us to be better on the ball.

"It does not come overnight it takes time.

"We will have to concentrate and shore up a bit and not concede as many."

Newcastle are still in the bottom three and in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom but Jones was not concerned about other teams.

Jones added: "I have not seen any results, I am only focused on Newcastle.

"We have only been at it a week.

"We have to improve and be better.

"I have to give the lads credit because tactically I was pleased with every aspect of the game.

"As I have said it is somewhere to start."
