Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles was happy seeing Florian Lejeune after victory against friendly opponents Rayo Vallecano.
The clash saw something for a reunion between Lascelles and his old defensive partner in Lejeune. The Frenchman came on as sub to warm applause at St James' Park.
Lascelles said: "Flo had a great spell when he was at Newcastle, he's a great person and he was a bit unlucky with injuries and things like that but it's great to see him back to his full fitness, happy and playing good football."
The day was capped off by the announcement of a superb crowd of 34,956 at St James' with few clubs able to attract so many to a friendly.
Lascelles reflected: "Fair play, you can't fault the Newcastle fans. They didn't have to come and show their support today but they did and I'm sure there will be a bigger turnout on Tuesday."
