Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles: We learned how to survive

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles feels the team has learned to survive in the Premier League.

The Toon defender led the side to 10th and 13th placed finishes in 2017/18 and 2018/19 with Newcastle also eight points above the relegation zone when the season was suspended in March amid the virus pandemic.

Lascelles, speaking to Dapo Abitogun on an Instagram live interview with Counter Attack, said: "The first season in the Premier League we finished 10th and had a great season.

"We had a group of players who wanted to work for the club.

"There were no individuals.

"That is a good start when there are no individuals in the team, it's important.

"Every team that comes to us know it will be a tough game because of the fans and the atmosphere.

"With the manager we had, tactically we were spot on, had a lot of clean sheets and didn't concede any goals.

"The games we won weren't 3-0 or 4-0, just enough to get it done."
