Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is desperate to avoid an unwanted club record against Wigan Athletic.

A fifth successive ­defeat would represent the Magpies' worst start to a ­Premier League season.

Pardew said: "We have ­circumstances that are little bit unusual, but we don't want that statistic hanging round our neck."
