Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew isn't bothered about Joey Barton's "spend big" demands last week.
Barton told reporters United "needed" to spend money before warning: "If you pay peanuts you get monkeys".
"I felt sorry for Joey that his quotes became the story but perhaps that happened because we won and there was not really a big story there," Pardew told the Sunday Sun.
"But I'm not bothered about Joey expressing his opinion, even though it is not one that I actually agree with.
"I signed Nicky Shorey for £10,000 from Leyton Orient when I was at Reading and he went on to be an England international.
"And we (Crystal Palace) signed Ian Wright from Dulwich Hamlet for nothing.
"So I don't agree, but Joey has his opinion - that is what the game is about."
