Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton says finding a new reserves coach is now a priority.

Alan Thompson left the club on Friday bound for Celtic.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle: "I can categorically say that the position will be filled as soon as possible.

"It will be filled by one person, but as yet there hasn't been a firm decision on who that will be.

"Like any club, we will continue to assess the options.

"It's an important position and one that we know needs addressing."
