Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton has played down talk of a bid for FC Twente midfielder Cheick Tiote.
The Evening Chronicle says despite rumours that Hughton was at Celtic's Europa League play-off win over Utrecht, the United boss was on Tyneside taking in Aston Villa's game with Rapid Vienna on TV in preparation for Sunday's clash.
United have been also been linked with FC Twente's Cheick Tiote with reports in Holland that Hughton is keen to bring the 24-year-old midfielder to St James'.
Hughton's response to the talk was: "My line on that one is that it's just speculation."
