Newcastle boss Howe says Guimaraes deal won't be last of market

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe says any deal for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes won't their last of the January market.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of players during the transfer window, with Guimaraes expected to join Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood as new additions to the squad.

And Eddie Howe says the hunt for reinforcement for the Premier League strugglers is far from over.

"From my perspective, I don't imagine that would be the end of our interest in bringing new players in," he said.

"Whether that turns into reality. Who knows. But things change very, very late in this window. As everybody knows, it can be quite unpredictable. The last couple of days with lots of different things maybe happening that you didn't expect so we're open.

"We're working hard to improve the squad is our biggest aim and give the team the best chance of staying in the league.

"Hopefully if we can get this deal over the line and we'll be in a lot better place. [My] Frustration is only with window, not with the club but with the window.

"I see that hard work, this window has been difficult. It is tough to get clear decisions from other clubs and direction in what we can and can't do. The work has been immense. I hope it bears fruit."
