Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says skipper Jamaal Lascelles will play this week in their Cup double.
This season he has started one Premier League game and two League Cup ties.
When asked about his captain's status going into a huge week, Howe said: "His professionalism strikes me every time I see Jamaal around the training ground.
"On the training pitch he has been first class.
"He is waiting. "He is ready. He has worked incredibly hard and yeah I back him if - given an opportunity - to play very well."
Newcastle face Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup today ahead of meeting Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.
