Newcastle boss Howe discusses Targett and summer market plans

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has left the door open to signing permanently Matt Targett.

The Aston Villa left-back has been on-loan since January.

Howe said: "I view him as an integral member of the squad.

"His attitude, conduct, performances and consistency have been of the highest level. I really like him."

The Toon manager continued: "I've got half an eye on the summer & preparing & planning to make that summer as cohesive as we can and try and get everything organised, but we've a game to play.

"I want my squad to be confident, ambitious.

"They have to believe in big things and we have to set targets internally.

"We also have to manage the expectation around the team. We don't want them to play under an unnecessary burden and pressure."
